FAQ
The Racine Family Club seeks to improve the quality of life for local families and the community. We aim to build a supportive environment made up of parents with young children in Racine. It is our intention to encourage learning, foster friendships, and to provide opportunities for social interaction.
Our guiding principles are to respect others differences, celebrate individual successes and efforts, provide a nurturing and supportive environment, and acknowledge that members shall take what they need, but give what they can.
Club members may enjoy:
- Kids’ events with crafts, outings to zoos, museums, and other fun kid-friendly activities and destinations
- Family Socials/Holiday Parties-Picnics, potlucks, weekend outings to family friendly destinations, and chances for dads to get involved, too
- “The Giving Tree”: meals for new moms and for those who have emergencies in the family; babysitting when you are in a pinch, errands or grocery shopping for those first few weeks postpartum, etc.
- Regular playgroups, tailored to the age or interests appropriate for your child or family
- Community outreach, involving fundraisers for a local charity, such as a school supply drive, a diaper drive for a women’s shelter, or quality literature for kids who can’t afford books, etc.
- Website (what you’re seeing, only improving every day!) with a calendar of upcoming group events, community-wide happenings, member-only message boards, “Best of Racine County” section to chat about our favorite places to dine, our favorite doctors, etc.
- Monthly newsletter with recipes, educational parenting articles, classified ads, etc.
- Moms’ nights out
- Interest-geared “Sub-Clubs,” such as the Bunko, book club, scrapbooking, etc.
- Educational speakers at monthly evening meetings (past and future topics include: how to write a will, kindergarten readiness, dealing with postpartum depression, a chef to teach how to prepare toddler-friendly meals, household organization/time management, etc.)
- Special support groups: Baby & Me, Breastfeeding, Working Mothers, Pregnancy
- What does RFC offer to its members?
Club members enjoy monthly meetings with featured speakers, playgroups, moms’ nights out, children’s outings, family events, “The Giving Tree” program, community outreach projects, message boards, and much more. - Do I have to live in the city of Racine to join?
We welcome members from all areas, whether they live in Racine, the surrounding areas, or even in distant locations (as, for example, should a member move away but still wish to retain membership). Our events are hosted primarily in Racine and Kenosha, but distant members may still access our supportive forums without attending other activities. - Where are RFC events held?
Our events are held at many different Racine-area venues, including parks, pools, the hospital, businesses, attractions, and churches. RFC is an independent non-profit organization and not affiliated with any particular faith, church, or business. If you own or manage a location that you would like to offer as a meeting space for RFC events, either for small or large gatherings, please email director@racinefamilyclub.org. - How do I become a member of Racine Family Club?
In order to become a member of RFC we ask that you submit our membership form and liability waiver, along with your dues, by mail. (Dues may be submitted electronically through PayPal.) We welcome new members who are expecting a child or have a child(ren) under the age of 6 to email membership@racinefamilyclub.org with your questions. We also require every member to donate two hours of their time per calendar quarter (eight hours per year). You can help in many ways! Setting up for a social event, writing articles for the newsletter, or preparing a meal for The Giving Tree are all just a few of the ways you can give back to the Club! - How much are annual dues?
Club dues are $40.00 and are due June 1st of each year. If you join RFC between December 1st and April 30th, dues will be $20.00 for the remainder of the year. If you join during May your dues are considered paid for the following year (June-next May). - Who do I write my check to and where do I mail it?
Checks can be made payable to Racine Family Club. Mail them to:
RFC
P.O. Box 044064
Racine, WI 53404-4064. - For what are my dues used?
We use dues to help pay for the cost of running the website and forum, socials (which often include room rentals, party supplies, and snacks), craft supplies, Kids Events, per diem rates for our speakers, and countless other expenses that are incurred. Dues are only a portion of how this club is supported, as fundraising also helps pay for the things we need! - If I only attend one type of function (i.e. join a play group), do I need to be a member of the club?
Yes, you do need to be a member to participate in any of our activities since all of our fun-filled activities require some work behind the scenes to make them happen. The one exception is that adult guests of RFC members may attend two adult-only events per calendar year (ex. game night or mom’s night out) before becoming a member. - Who do I contact regarding membership questions?
Please send an email to our membership coordinator, and we will help answer any questions you may have. - Do I have to be a member to attend a general meeting?
We welcome all prospective members to join us at our monthly meetings. Come join us and find out what we are about! General meetings are not held on a regular basis, so please contact our membership coordinator if you like to attend. We do not have childcare available at this time. However, lap babies (under 6 months old) are welcome to come to the meetings. - I have mailed my dues, application, and liability waiver. When can I start attending RFC events?
One of our volunteers stops at the PO Box twice a week. You can expect to be contacted by our Welcome Coordinator within 5 - 10 days, and she will arrange a time to have you recieve your nametag and New Member folder. Once you have your nametag, you may start attending RFC functions. - I am interested in being a speaker at a general meetings. What do I do?
Please email director@racinefamilyclub.org. - How do I use the online forum?
You’ll find a link to the message board in the top right hand corner of the home page. Please register, and if you are an RFC member your request will be approved as soon as possible. Once you are approved, you may begin posting. RFC members have access to the entire board. - I found a mistake on your website!
Whoops.
Email us at webmistress@racinefamilyclub.org, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible.
