Sub-Clubs
Racine Family Club recognizes that we as caregivers have a variety of diversions outside of child-rearing, and our goal is to help bring together people with similar interests and create outlets social interaction based on our hobbies and other activities. Our “Sub-Clubs” are interest-driven groups within RFC, organized by the people who join them and run according to whatever schedule they prefer.
A sampling of our sub-clubs:
Stroller Walking Get some exercise, enjoy the great outdoors, and involve the kids in these regularly-scheduled, fun-filled morning outings! Weight Loss Whether it’s “baby weight” you want to lose or part of an ongoing effort to be more healthy, our club’s weight loss support group can give you the help you need! Knitting Been stitching since you were small? Never touched a needle? All are welcome to participate! If you’d like to learn how, our veteran knitterswould be happy to teach you. Chick Flick Club For those of us whose spouses and partners are “reluctant” to weep with us over the latest tear-jerker or romantic comedy Scrapbooking Break out the scissors, the punches, and the stencils, and make some memories while recording your old ones! Wine Club Whether you’re an amateur sommelier or just an infrequent sampler, you can join the group and enjoy a glass of something new and untried! Babysitting Co-op Okay, so the “interest” here is getting out of the house for a little bit, but this Sub-Club allows participants to share babysitting responsibilities with each other in exchange for their own babysitting at a later date. Book Club We meet once a month to discuss a group-read book; titles are chosen by the “host,” which position rotates. Come and enjoy some good literature or perhaps some brain candy - it’s always something new! Living Simply Parents who meet to discuss the benefits and challenges of trying to live a more simple life. Topics include money and time management, environmental awareness, and other topics of interest as they come up. Very informal and meetings usually are open format of just conversation and sharing of ideas. Anyone is welcome to drop in. We have been meeting the first Monday evening the month but this is flexible. “It is about living an examined life — one in which you have determined what is important, or “enough,” for you, discarding the rest.”
More clubs are forming all the time, and if you have an interest that’d not represented yet, feel free to bring it up at a meeting or over at our discussion boards to see if there are others who also share your hobby! All our Sub-Clubs communicate via the discussion boards to set up meetings; it’s the best way to see what’s going on!
